If I remember correctly, the astronauts found glass-like beads on the moon. They were the kind that are created under significant heat, like a hydrogen bomb. I wonder if they could have also been looking to create glass beads to compare to the ones they found up there. Some scientists have theorized that our sun generates micro novas every 12,000-ish years and comparing the beads they found to those generated by a hydrogen bomb could be of interest.
